Living in Harmony with the Environment

I have been researching an environmentally sustainable economy. The most interesting thing that I have found is that it is an inevitability of sorts and that it has already started to happen. We are growing tremendously in population size, and if we are able to sustain this size we must manage the environment with the economy. We must live in harmony with the environment and not try to bend it to our will. The next thing being that there are already signs of this thing happening. Buisnesses have started to go green. And governments and power companies are offering incentives for companies to become sustainable. This is hopefully a trickle towards the coming torrent that will end in a sustainable economy.

Approaching an Enviromentally Based Economy

I had no idea what to expect about what an enviromentally sustaiblable economy would be like. I was surprised to find out how close we are to one, and the things being done to create one. One of my article shows how we are approaching an inevitability of sorts. We are becoming ever more aware how dependant we are on the enviroment, and how to survive we must live in harmony with it. How governments are making it easier for buisnesses to make a profit while also being enviromental. I am looking forward to finding more out about this topic, and how close we are to an enviromentally sustainable economy.

Evaluating An Article

I found a very good article useing the resarch database SIRS. It is called Crossing the Threshold by Lester R. Brown. The author is very well versed in this area, and has written other article on the economy and enviroment. He has also been published elsewhere in other magazines. The magazine that this particular article is taken from, World Watch, is a peer reviewed and reputable magazine. So this seems like a realible article after analyzing where it comes from and who wrote.

The Stanger by Alber Camus is an amazing book. From the moment i started reading it  I was unable to put it down until i finished it. I was able to get so enthrolled in this book that i read it in a few sittings. I was surprised at how short this book is, considereing that he is conveying a whole person and the complexities of life. The first thing that amazed me where how the chapters were written. Each chapter is like a short story and there is a thread of similarity that combines them all together. The ending of each chapter is amazing and I am just blown away by his writing style. Lastly the ideas in this book are mind boggeling. What matters in life? What is life? How do you deal with the absurdness and unfairness of it all? Philosophical questions like this are laced throught out the novel. This was an amazing book, and my first impressiosn of it turned out to be correct.

Analysis of an Image

The subject is a Buddhist monk setting himself on fire in protest of the Chinese government. It is very unusual in that the man is so calm and completely engulfed in flames. The impact on the viewer is one of disbelief and sheer awe. The moment you see this a milieu of questions appear in ones mind. I would say that this picture is universal, because it represents someone willing to go this far for a cause/ideal.

Herbert the Bad Guy?

Politicans trying to get you to vote for them is no different than companies selling their products. Both of them try to comvince you that their product is superior. Many ways in which they do this is misleading. Politicans are notorice in decieving voters, and its not just one side doing this. An example of this is a video against Gary Herbert from the offical Peter Corron campain channel.

This ad is ridiculous in what it does. It makes it seem to the viewer that Herbert is responsible for the jobloss, recession in the economy, and the school's budget defeciet. It sites no policies of Herbert with respect to any of these issues. It shows only quotes of articles, and doesnt show you the whole picture. All this ad is trying to do is associate negative feelings with Herbert.

Glittering Generalities

We all know that advertisments are designed to sell us on some product. The methods used to do this are often desceptive and hard to spot. In the book Unpun it discusses many of the ways we are decieved in everday life. One of the warning signs of deception is Glittering Generalities. These are vauge attractive sounding terms.

One example of this I found are the Orbit gum commercials. The glittering generality is  "for a good clean feeling no matter what." I found this example by just watching tv and seeing what commercials caught my attention the most and then I looked over them again to find terms in the book.

Should We React Nuclearly?

We have all heard about global warming at one point or another. We have also heard about the myriad solutions that are being proposed to stop or slow down global warming. One of which is nuclear power. There are many problems associated with nuclear power. One of which is the nuclear waste which is the by product.
