Gary Winnogrand, and how his work applies to my work

Something I have become interested in learning more about is how the background of a picture can accent the main focus of the picture. I started to become interested in Gary Winogrand because he expertly portrays many photographs in which the main focus of the picture would be worthless without the background. So far I have learned that Gary Winogrand was a photographer born and raised in New York City who mainly took pictures of the street. He roamed the streets and took pictures of interesting scenes that he found, such as this:

I am exploring Times Square, in New York City. I am interested in this because i believe that Times Square is truly a neighborhood like no other. in the beginning of this class, i thought about what made New York unique, and one of the first things that popped into my head was Times Square. Tourists come from all around the world, to visit what is believed to be the heart and soul of the city that never sleeps, and that is because there is nowhere else with brand new skyscrapers and buildings from the 1900's stuck right next to each other, with walking advertisements, or with entire buildings filled up with advertisements, or with street performers, impersonators, and historical statues all right next to each other. And then to mix it all together is the general traffic and disarray that New York City is famous for.

So far, I have been doing very well with my work. I have been following true to the goals that I set up for myself, and I haven't deviated from the path that I chose for myself very long ago. I have continued to show the spirit of New York City, through the architecture, and the people themselves. Also, the advertisements that cover the entire center building of my main photograph. Also, I have (by using photoshop to aid my efforts), used special effects to show the mood of Times Square. I changed all of the scenery to be chaotic, and less organized, than not, just to show the wild, and un-channeled spirit of the city. While I have been doing well to stay in the boundaries of my topic, I fear that I may be running out of territory to spread my wings in. Therefore, I am going to try to spread my reach to the very outskirts of Times Square in an effort to obtain new material. other than that, i am doing very well for myself.
