My thoughts on the Egyptian Protest

Discussion by: XLiu on Sat, 2011-03-05 21:07 with 0 comments

Recently in we've been studying about the protest in Egypt. At first, I thought the protest might not last long. When I saw pictures on the amount of people that join the protest I started to think that this protest might actually work. I know that many people feel that the president of Egypt should step down. After doing this study, I began to agree with what people think, that Mubrak allow the Egyptian government to be corrupted. For example, I heard that 2 government officials, Al Ahram and Ibrahim Soliman have used their position to obtain bribe and illegal commissions.

One thing that I know for sure about Egyptian Protest is that it took place all over Egypt at the large squares that allow a large amount of protestors to gather up. Now I've studied my share of current event in Egypt, and I believe the Egyptians is hopeless unless something change. I’ve heard that the Egyptian government passed out a law called the Emergency Law, it allow government to imprison individual without reason. I think it's funny how the law is call “Emergency” Law, yet it has been in effect for around 30 years.

Dear Dairy

Today, I saw the whole family gathered together to discuss about something, they looked terrify and angry as they argue. I did not understand what they were talking about, I did however remember one word they said, “Nazi”.

Dear Dairy

All the adults now wear a star on their shoulders, I want one too!

Memory Chain: My years in Hong Kong

Discussion by: XLiu on Mon, 2011-01-24 00:09 with 0 comments

I remember staring at myself in the mirror on the first day of school in Hong Kong. A tomboyish looking girl with bowl cut hair stared back at me in the mirror. I was a tan little girl in a Cantonese school uniform. That was the first time I tried on a uniform, I did not realize what it symbolize. Only one thought was in my mind “ why is this uniform so ugly compare to the one I saw in Japanese dramas?” then I started to blame my mom for applying me to the school with ugly uniform.

Personal Inquiry Cyberbullying

Something that I have been interested in learning more about has been cyber bullying. I remember my cousin talking about it when she was on Facebook, she asked me if it’s consider cyber bullying when a class of people send e-mail to notify one another to not talk to a certain classmate in class . Lately, the issue has caught my eye again. I know that many people feel that their children would not be hurt by cyber bullying, since their children can easily shut off the computers. From what I have heard, cyber bullying can be define as "when the Internet, cell phones or other devices are used to send or post text or images intended to hurt or embarrass another person". For example, repetitively sending message to someone after that person mention that he/she wants no further contact with the senders would be consider cyber bullying. Now that's just what I've heard, it may or may not be true.

Black Boy Research Paper

The book Black Boy would not attract me by its cover, it’s simple and plain. Nonetheless, I’ve try to read the book, and I was immediately disgust by Richard’s foolish action and thoughts. I wanted to put the book down right away, but my curiosity urged me to move on. My decision did not disappoint me, Richard eventually developed moral and he began to think like a normal person. Richard’s positive experience, and negative experience all seems to be linked with his urge for literature. His link with literature seems to became that factor that affects his future. Richard’s road of life encourages the readers to go for their goal. His life shows us that life is full of opportunities, if you try hard enough, nothing would be impossible.

Side effects of Global Warming

Discussion by: XLiu on Sun, 2010-10-17 20:07 with 0 comments

As I research articles on Global Warming, I would wonder about the effect of Global Warming. Does Global Warming only cause negative side effects? Did people try to hide the positive side effect of Global Warming? But why would they hide anything like that, would it do them any good? And I realize how stupid I was to think of such questions, because there are proofs all over the world about the huge damages cause by Global Warming. Even if there are any positive side effects, they’ll never measure up to the damage that can be cause. And that thought somehow lead me to think about the people who doubt the existence of global warming. I don’t understand why anyone would doubt the existence of global warming when there’s evidence all around them.

Reactions to Global Warming

If I were to choose a topic that I can probably write for a year, than that would be Global Warming. Global Warming is happening, there are new discovery about it every once in a while, there is no need to worry about the lack of information. Funny thing was, I’ve notice Global Warming is not a just an environmental problem anymore, it has develop into economic and political problems.
