For this photograph, I chose to take a close up of the moss on the tree. It is an example of blurred background, which brings more attention to the main focus for the photo. The yellow and green leaves in the background also add to the photo. The angle of the tree is a decent example of diagonal or leading lines, as it draws your eye up the image.

This picture is successful because it uses the rule of thirds. The focus is the knot on the left side of the picture, and is in the third instead of the middle. After you notice the knot, the colors of the leaves in the other two thirds draw your attention to that part. Also, the tree is on the edge of the composition and it creates a border for the photo.
