Final Reflection

I think I contribute to the Youth Voices community by adding posts, and making comments. Making the posts are easy, because we have a specific format to follow, which is helpful. Commenting is a little more difficult, because it is sometimes hard to think of what to say, however, I know that I find comments helpful, so I try to comment on other people too. I wish that I could post more pictures, because they come out looking pretty good on this site, however, I haven't really worked on many others that I am satisfied with, so I would be unable to do that. Overall Youth Voices is a good site for what we are doing in class.

This year my theme of focus has been shapes. Slowly that evolved into the interaction of shapes with themselves and the environment and mood around them. Later I began using color, mainly the contrast between vibrancy and darkness, in order to further this idea. My main goal was to create a picture that was striking and unique. I think this is a goal for a lot of artists, but it was still fun to go about it in my own way. In general, it's nice to have a goal, because even if you don't reach it, there is a sense of accomplishment every time you get a little closer.

Jerry N. Uelsmann (Re-visualizing)

Something I have become interested in learning more about is the story behind a picture. I started to become interested in Jerry N. Uelsmann because of the strangeness of his pictures. They were different so it made me wonder about what he might have been thinking while he was putting together an image. So far I have learned that Uelsmann heavily believes in re-visualizing an image in a way that will make him amaze himself.

Shapes in Photography (in Color!)

For my first set of photos (http://youthvoices.net/node/25866) I was focusing on the theme of the picture, and the angle. After that I decided I wanted to include more interesting shapes in my pictures, as it would catch more attention. I think I mostly achieved that in my second group of pictures (http://youthvoices.net/node/28476) with the use of the shape of the apple contrasting with that of the tree. Next I wanted to include more colors in my photographs. Though I had one nice color in that picture, I think it had a lack of variety. For my next group of pictures I would like to have lots of different, bright color, that will draw peoples' attention.

Photographing Shapes

I am exploring the theme of interesting shapes. I am interested in this because shapes is a general topic, that can include a lot of different types of pictures.

I took the first photograph, which as you can see is a tree with a large apple in it. I know how to use a mask now to combine two images. My interpretation of this photograph is that because apples and trees are found together often in nature, I hope the picture doesn't look overly edited, or too out of place.

It has been said that one image is worth a thousand words. This could be true about my picture because it shows that when you attempt to make something look 'natural' it has a different affect then if you were only trying to make something unique. It reflects my theme in that though it could be a natural occurrence, the circular shape of the apple clearly contrasts with the linear shape of the branch.

I am exploring the theme of interesting shapes. I am interested in this because if there are intriguing shapes in a picture, they draw you into the image and makes you think harder about what might the photo might represent to you.

In this photograph, I see the leaves of a tree after it rained in an unique angle. I know that the spherical shape of water droplets when they are still is very interesting to me. My interpretation of this photograph is that when both a smooth shape (such as the water droplets shape) and a pointy, or rougher shape (such as the leaves themselves) are together in one picture the dynamic works well.

I just read a Wikipedia article, "Choice" Wikipedia: The Free Encyclopedia. December 1st 2008, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Choices )
