Beginning the Design Process

Discussion by: 12makridise on Fri, 2010-06-11 02:01 with 0 comments

After consistent revision of the original technology project, I have finally began the actual process. For the project, I used the feedback given to me on my design proposal (the initial one) and I decided to make an additional alteration to my theme. I am not focusing on a diversity of movie themes, but am concentrating upon a more female related movie theme (in order to make the gender of  my birthday individual more evident ), revolving around various aspects of romantic movies, such as romantic comedy as well as romance and action in one. My first move was to begin making a list of al of the movies I was to use; this however, included a lot of additional research, for I needed to decide upon 50 movies that were centralized upon love and romance (a girl theme). As I was making the list however, another concern came into my mind: what if the group does not know much information about the movies? Is there a way I could offer a greater level of clarification, in order to make the game more pleasurable?

 Title of game: Starstruck

Audience: The game is for ages 12 and up (you must have adequate or average amount of knowledge based upon music, both modern and old). The number of players ranges from 2 to 6. The game targets audience members that have an interest or love for theatrical productions, movies, and acting. One must be equipped with enough knowledge about current movies (the focus will be on modern day film, 20th century and 21st century). The game can be played against two players, but it is recommended that two pairs go against each other (this intensifies the competition and fun).  The targeted gender is the female gender, although males are encouraged to participate if they wish to do so.

Type of game: It is a board game.

The Legacy of Globalization (Monopoly)

My partner and I have decided to construct a board game based on the topic of globalization. When globalization comes to mind, a diffusion of positive as well as negative aspects emerge. Depending upon anyone's perspective, an individual may view globalization as the process of integration, leading to the interconnectedness of nations, progression of trade and communication, and expansion of ideas, knowledge and products. Unfortunately, that's not how we (my partner and I) see it. This board game is going to be designed as a wake up call, or alarming statement that targets unveiling the raw truths that hide behind the corruption of the IMF (International Monetary Fund that is the basis of any nation's fellowship in this unionized financial system). For example, the workers of underdeveloped countries (involved in globalization) are forced to work in brutal conditions, risking their health and well being all for the production of materials; each worker is paid very minimally, as opposed to the profit made in the country that sells the materials in a shop or store.

Today, I played a game called The McDonald's Game. I found it at  http://mcvideogame.com/ . I got interested in this game because I found the category interesting, and it generally caught my interest because it included the name of a very popular fast food company, that exists and influences American lives daily.

Imagining my Meal in the future

Looking into the future I foresee multiple economic problems that come hand in hand with the ever-changing climate because of our lack of generating methods or strategies soon enough, in order to ensure protection and safety from falling into the pit of devastation, hunger and under nourishment. From reading articles such as "Why Global Warming Portends A Food Crisis" written by Bryan Walsh, my mind falls into distress and I find myself overly vexed just imagining the world in the future. Change needs to start coming soon enough, or else we will never survive the next years marked by uncertainty and great strain. It's a ponderous undertaking on our governments part, but the effectiveness lies in the hands of citizens from around the world.

Brainstorming a Concept Web for My Game Idea

Here is a general layout of the six components that would construct the overall structure of my game:

Concept: Running through the ruins of a lost ancient Empire, situated within a rainforest in order to get a rescue pack to the people in need who have gotten stranded within the dangerous region (airplane crash).

Components: In order to successfully reach from one layer of the rainforest to the desired destination, you would need to watch for the following requirements: 1. need to know how to use the keyboard correctly, need to be familiar with the tabs and their uses within the game 2. need to know how to keep an eye upon all the materials or supplies found on the way, because it is crucial to win the level.

Even though I've seldom engaged in playing, my favorite video game of all time, would have to be Guitar Hero World Tour. I personally have an immense love for rock and roll, and take full enjoyment in rocking it out with my friends or relatives. In the end, we always have a great time trying our best to interact as a team in order to have the best possible result, but the level of excitement and fun all depends on the people and type of connection you have with them.  Here's a basic breakdown of the six elements of this particular gaming system:

Not all games are the same. Some are video games played for personal entertainment as well as stress relief. Others seem to be designed to expand knowledge as well as raise awareness. Designers of games are trying to make the user engage in a challenge that would ultimately enhance his/her understanding of important global issues . While some are played simply for the thrill of a challenge. Whatever game it is, the goals are always the same: to achieve winning based on certain standards of the game itself with the highest level. I personally  see gaming as a way to lay back and have fun, it pleases me whenever I get to challenge my friends or cousins in a good day's play of guitar hero or mariocart.

Screen Cast: How to create constructive criticism on youthvoices.net

The link to watch my screen cast: http://www.screencast.com/users/elisavet/folders/Default/media/5e83cceb-56f4-4922-a582-90769edaa54d

The making of my screen cast, was based on the concept of constructive criticism when it comes to commenting on any type of post, ranging from discussions, podcasts, videos, images, texts etc. Within the screen cast itself, I made sure to incorporate several important guidelines one can follow, when commenting posts on youthvoices.net. These suggested guidelines were also visually represented during the screen cast, so that the viewer gained full understanding on how to create effective feedback. Not, only did I explain the suggestions, but I also applied them to my own writing when commenting on another person's post on this social network. The main goal of the screen cast, was to encourage members of youthvoices.net to take a bit more time to analyze and comment on a variety of posts and the general message that was conveyed was based on showing how important the exchange of feedback is on youthvoices, emphasizing on the ways giving back in depth comments opens many doors to the mind or users.
