In modern day society, there are poverty stricken countries, cities, and neighborhoods everywhere we look. It is not only a prevalent problem in the world, but it’s also a big problem here, in America. Reading these articles have enlightened me to see just how serious the problem of poverty is today. This does not necessarily even have to do with simply money, but it also has to do with our basic needs.
A senior in the Judge Community, Mia, is among the minority of of girl gamers. Introduced to League of Legends by an ex-boyfriend, she now plays League with her current.
I am investigating why girls seem to rarely play games. If they do, why? What got them interested in them? What keeps them interested in an industry traditionally catered to a male audience?
Michael Jordan is widely considered the greatest NBA player of all time. But is this actually true? Michael Jordan is not the greatest of all time due to many reasons. One is that he is not as individually dominant of a player as many of his predecessors and successors. This is evidenced by the fact that he only won one playoff round until the drafting of Scottie Pippen in 1987. Some of the best players of all time have dominated their time and the history after them, but Jordan does not hold any major individual records.
I am not a huge sports fan but it has been hard to ignore the recent hype surrounding the incidences of domestic violence among professional athletes. The Baltimore Raven’s running back, Ray Rice, was recently suspended by the NFL after a physical altercation with his wife went public. Many people have criticized the NFL’s suspension as too lenient, claiming that Rice’s status as a professional athlete, valued for millions of dollars, helped his case and he was let off easy.
When the new major takes office in the New York City teen pregnancy is an issue that he or she and the council will need to deal with and propose a solution for. This is an important topic that must be addressed.
So as uncomfortable a topic as this is, it was a question that I put on an assignment for this class and I really don’t feel like having to research a new topic or taking the time to change the question. In hindsight I really should have thought really hard about what I picked even if I wasn’t positive that it was going to go on the internet. But hey, I’ve already gone this far, so I might as well finish what I started.
Why are tattoos so popular in today’s society? Most people who have tattoos will say that they got it for a specific time or person in their lives that they will never forget. Others say that they feel more adventurous and don’t really have a specific reason for getting their tattoo. For some people, tattoos make them feel different from other people. Some people say it is art. In an NBC News article a young man said, “Your body’s an empty canvas, so you almost want to continue to add to it.” I personally do not like tattoos and i don’t understand them.
ever wonder what kids are actually listening to? watching? most people do, but most people don't stop whats being watched or listened to. most tv show today, are about sex, drugs, and alcohol. but just because they're watching them doesn't mean they'll imitate it, well thats the question at hand. and it's abtually proven that what they're watching and listening to is something they'll imitate. http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/02/05/under-the-influence-ofmusic/
this article, posted in the new york times, gives perfect examples of just how that influencing happens.
Because we are starting "Dead Man Walking" in english today, and we have been talking about the death penalty in my religion class, I decided to look up some facts and statistics about the death penalty.
It's hard to trust the statistics we hear about unemployment, debt, and the distribution of wealth in America. But no matter what sources you think are valid, the fact that the distribution of wealth in America is skewed is an easy point to prove. The video I watched today illustrated in a simple manner how the richer portion of Americans (which is a small percentage of people) own the majority of wealth in the United States; while the majority of Americans own a very small percentage of the wealth.
