For my project I choose to do a prezi, in which I showed a few pictures of how phones/ media are affecting our culture negatively. I am somewhat torn on the subject of media, I used this research to ponder on the subject myself, I am torn on this because I love my phone but I also do notice from myself and others that we are on it too much at the wrong times and with the wrong people With my Media I choose to do a prezi, I choose to do this so I could include multiple pictures with a easy transitions which will visually suffice the viewers while they are thinking.
In my scratch project a mother is waiting on the street and asking people for food or money. She has three children and has no way of acquiring money at the time. She sees her sister and her sister is pressed with the decision to give her some bread and have to buy more for diner, or to just go away and ignore her.
This week, using the Gale database, I researched several topics that are encompassed by the larger topic of Silicon Valley & The Internet Revolution. The first article that I was read was one from Newsweek about how Silicon Valley is killing entrepreneurship in the rest of the United States. The argument that the author Kevin Maney argues that Americans can only spend a certain amount of money on new startup companies, and since Silicon Valley has become the nation's capital for entrepreneurs, it is taking away money from other cities' new businesses.
I am most proud of my animations. I feel like I got my characters to move around when needed. I am also proud of my characters interaction with the background. I could have improved my script. I feel like I could have added more story, even though I didn’t know what else to add.

Nomophobia, the fear of losing your cellphone. With the increasing use of cell phone in teenagers, teens are more likely to have this phobia. It's understandable since teens are on their phone a lot more than any other age groups. Cell phone mimicry, taking out your cell phone when you see another person take out its cellphone.
Silicon Valley has become one of America’s largest and most booming job industries over the past decade. The advent of the Internet as well as the introduction of social media into society’s everyday life has contributed to the rise of Silicon Valley. Gone are the days of less-than-instantaneous communication; tech industries have issued in an era of widespread information and instant communication. The “hard working businessman” has been replaced by the young entrepreneur and innovator.
Since before the World Wars we as a people have made use of encryption and other forms of cryptography to protect themselves and their ideas. For most of this time cryptography had been considered a good thing which should be used and implemented by more people than heads of state and enterprise.
I chose the topic to research about technological advancements in society. I have taken the stance to talk about how technology is very beneficial to society. I am planning to research various sources including newspaper articles, articles, research databases, polls, etc. to gain more information about my topic. Some of the articles I have read so far include articles about improvements in bionic prosthetic limbs, devices for cancer treatment, applications for senior citizens and advancement in mobile use in Africa.
Our society has gone through many technological advancements throughout the years. Whether it has been a couple years or even a century, our world has technologically advanced so rapidly that most people have integrated technology into their daily lives. However, there has been much debate recently about whether the use of technology is harmful or beneficial to society. Some may argue that technology ruins people’s humanity, health, and even disconnect them from their surrounding world. However, I believe that technology has made more positive impacts on society than negative impacts.
In today’s day and age, technology has created changes in the way we communicate. Sexting is a new form of communication, there are underlying reasons that people do this. Sexting is sending a message that is sexually explicit. “Nearly 40% of all teenagers have posted or sent sexually suggestive messages…” (DoSomething). A message can never be deleted once sent, “17% of sexters share the messages they receive with others, and 55% of those share them with more than one person.” (Dosomething).
When I think of dystopian societies, I think of control and manipulation of everything an individual owns, specifically with advanced technology. Similar to Divergent, surveillance and mysterious serums can be used to see inside one's brain and force them to confess their lies and/or coerce them into doing something they don't want to do. Technology is an impressive invention and has made many people's lives a lot more efficient, but it has also taken a turn for the dark side.
It seems that in modern times, technology runs our lives; we're beginning to lose touch with others due to lack of natural communication and hiding behind a screen in social situations. In the novel Brave New World, Aldous Huxley refers to this phenomenon when he writes about the things we love, and how they'll lead to our demise. A common love in today's world is our handheld devices, rather than an actual person.
It seems that teens, like myself, only hear the same old phrases from adults, ranging from, "When I was your age, I didn't have..." and "Life doesn't revolve around technology". Don't get me wrong, all of which are completely true, but what if one day everything does rotate around technology?
As of now, I have played Ayiti: The Cost of Life 3 times. Granted, it was quite difficult. I underestimated the difficulty of the game, as it seemed similar to another one I had played, which seemed fairly easy. Instead, this game was much more brutal.
The first time I played the game, Ayiti, I attempted to focus on the health of my family. Every time a family member became sick, I had give them the best care, in the hospital. In return my family lost a lot of money, and then I was not able to let them get medical care, I was forced to let them stay at home. I was then unable to give my family medical care, and so slowly, they all died.
In technology class, we were given an assignment for homework– it was to play a game online. Although from the thought of this you may feel that playing a game for homework is nonsense, this game was educational, and did open my eyes to real-world situations, as described while playing this game.
I’ve have been wondering how has modern technology affects culture? All the new computers, phones, tablets, etc can really change traditions. The subject got my attention again when my school bought tablets for all the students. The culture of schools and education can really change from things like this. Some people think that maybe newer technology is the future and that culture won’t matter as much if at all when things get so advanced. However, I’ve heard that its important to keep a balance of cultural identity with beliefs in technology but that may or may not be true.
As I have developed my research paper, I have found that my findings not only encompass symbols on money, but anti-counterfeiting techniques as well. My research question is, "What techniques are used to secure American money from counterfeiters?" According to an Hard Currency by Sarah Jacoby, an article I found through EBESCO, more and more countries are concerned with the sanctity of currency. Countries are combining complex technologies to make notes harder to copy and easier to spot fake money.
The FAA has recently granted permission to Amazon to test and experiment delivery drones for research and development. Amazon's ultimate goal is to have the ability to deliver packages in 30 minutes, but current rules and regulations are so restrictive that only hobbyists and small businesses can use the drones in productive ways. Current law says drones must remain is line of sight with the operator, and travel no more than 100 mph, making Amazon's goal currently impossible.
I am interested in looking at how the US will adjust to climate change in the transportation sector. In particular, trains are an industry where there is a lot of research from other countries, but the US lacks of a lot of infrastructure. For this reason, it is a great research topic and area for the US to look into building a new passenger transportation system. They can build on the work of the Europeans and Asians to find more energy efficient methods of transporting people.
Since its inception during the early 1940’s, nuclear technology has continuously changed and expanded. The first atomic weapons were developed during the Manhattan Project, which was the US initiative to build the world’s first atomic weapon. These weapons were built using fission reactions, but in the following years exponentially more powerful weapons were built using fusion reactions, according to the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization.
Throughout my research I found the recurring idea that drones are the future and that they will inevitably be found in skies across the U.S. The incredible potential of drones is impossible to ignore. Some of those uses include night vision, high powered zoom, see-through imaging, and video analysis. Of course with these advances in drones, there are many new legal issues that must eventually be addressed, including complaints about tracking, discriminatory targeting, institutional abuse, and automated law enforcement.
This is a project of mine that I created through Scratch as part of a technology project. It’s an animation on how a group of four people manage to survive in Antarctica despite the brutal conditions they face. It all starts when their plane crash lands on Antarctica and are forced to head to the Southern Ocean with their boats and possibly row to their research station that they were heading to. They endure many hardships and eventually reach there.

For my Unit 2 Technology project I made an animation about a story inspired from the anime Fairy Tail by Hiro Mashima. The story is about a girl named Layla who decides to visit her dad because they were not very close and she did not visit him in a long time. As she goes, his friends Nathan and Harry accompany him and walk to her father's workplace. Eventually, Layla learns that her father had passed away leaving her distraught and shocked. Fortunately to the help, support, and comfort from Nathan and Harry, Layla feels better and then goes home.
This story is about a person who founds the buried head of her best friend, Alice Bradley, buried in her garden. "The Garden", follows through on her adventures to find the murderer. However, after being framed and thrown into prison, how will she escape? Here's the script:

VICTORIA
Love. Death. Betrayal. These ideas mark the murder of Alice Bradley, a young married woman who lived in an old neighborhood in the Atlanta suburbs. She had been my closest friend, and a person who indirectly lead me to my death bed. It all started one day, when I was tending my garden…
