In Always Running by Luis J. Rodriguez, one of the characters, Chicharon joined the SSG (South Side Gabriel) gang. They would tag it everywhere. Everyone called him chin because of his jaw. He was jumped, and he got his jaw broken, making it look all corroded which got him the name, Chin. They would assemble in this broken-down, burnt-down-ruins looking place. It was a good place to gather up. They even put up a plastic sheet for when their homies had to sleep.
The book that I have finished is Hole in My Life, by Jack Gantos. It is a nonfiction memoir with 200 pages total. I have alreasdy made one previous response regarding the novel.
A movie I have recently seen was called The Runways. What led me to watch this movie was the fact that Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning were the two main female characters. The Runaways was based on a true story during the 70’s. The movie was about how an all girl rock band called the runaways formed and broke up. Kristen Stewart played as Joan Jett was the lead guitarist and Dakota Fanning played as Cherie Currie was the lead vocalist. Throughout the movie you see the struggles the band faces and accomplishments they make to becoming the first big all girl rock band. It shows how at that time period it was very hard for girls to be taken seriously especially as a rock band. In my opinion I thought the movie was really good even though it wasn’t exactly a happy ending for the band.
