A little background: I am reading assorted stories by Edgar Alan Poe, and the prompt was do describe something about the text that is different than your previous experience.

Edgar Alan Poe is a famous poet, and horror writer. Most know about "The Raven", "Anabelle Lee", "The Tell Tale Heart" and things along those lines. I was the same way until my recent purchase of the complete Poe; all of his shorts and all of his poems all wrapped up in one package. Since then, I have not been able to put it down. 

Poe is substantially different than anyone I have read, or remember reading, in his diction. His writing career took place in the early 1800's and this was a transitional phase for writing. Poe has many stories that are in the gothic style, that are sad and dark and gloomy, but he also has many that are quite the opposite. The story that I have most recently been reading is, "The Unparalleled  Adventure of One Hans Pfaal". This story is about a man who gives up his life (which at the time was a mess anyway) to travel to the moon by way of balloon.

I have been reading all of the posts that have been popping up about the play, "RENT," recently and I new that I had to make my own post because of how much I agreed with everyone's feelings about this production.This play was thoroughly enjoyable and when the lights came back on after the play was over, I was very surprised that I was in Judge's Auditorium. I had become so captivated by the characters and the abilities of the actors and actresses that I felt as if I was at a play put on by professionals.  My favortie character was Mark Cohen who was played by John Humiston because of his ability to put on a whole new personality and pull the audience in to focus on every word that came out of his mouth. This play's success cannot be simplified to any one character though and I think that the main reason that it is so good is because the whole cast was very comfortable on stage and is very good at conveying the feeling and message of the play itself. This play is going to go down as one of the best plays to ever be produced by Judge Memorial.
