 Utah has a reputation for not always putting education at the top of their priorities. Governor Herbert was naturally faced with much criticism on the issue. Peter Corroon who was looking to replace the Governor was quick to point out his weakness however his arguments are about to become unspun. 

On Peter Corron's website an article is written about what Corroon wants for Utah. "Education is the key to our enduring freedom, prosperity and self-sufficienty." Inspiring, these words make everyone excited however there is no real plan or specific statement that describes just how Corroon is going to help Utah's education. After using true glittering generalities to describe what Corroon believes Utah needs, the technique is used again but in a negative way. Blast after blast I couldn't help but think "Herbert could care less about education." I had truly been spun. 

With the 2010 midterm elections just passing, there are plenty examples of political spin. The video below is about Dale Peterson who is running for Alabama Agriculture Commissioner.

After months of political campaigns attempting to spin everything they can, the results of the election seem to point out that spin will never end.  Spin was used in the 'thank you's" by both the democrats and the republicans but here is an example of republicans spin.   Some of the first examples of this are the use of artistic wording in order to set a mood of the speech.  Boehner brings up who is really the winner of this election and says that it is the people, the american people who have won.  This is one of those things that just makes people feel good about who wins, to bring up national pride as well as a personal victory.

George Orwell stresses that the 'ugliness and the inaccurateness' of political language in his essay, Politics and the English Language, is the cause of distortion to citizens and followers. He believes that all political language does not express the truth but hides it; it uses vague and false terms to distort ideas making all of us prey. It's all a part of spin and the main goal of spin is to manipulate the public. A great amount of politicians are guilty of adding metaphors that are irrelevant and of including phrases just because. It doesn't matter whether a politician is Republican or Democratic because they are all guilty.
