During the Acid Tests, Jerry Garcia and a couple other founding members of the Grateful Dead lived on the Further Bus. The bus was owned by Ken Kesey and his band of merry pranksters. After the pranksters disbanded, the Grateful Dead lived in a house in Haight Ashbury. Haight Ashbury was the neighborhood in San Francisco that birthed the hippie movement and played a role in the beat movement which came just before the hippies. It was a place free of discrimination, a place of peace, but eventually it became too crowded and strayed away from the its peaceful ways.
Jerry Garcia was born in San Francisco, his dad was a fan of wood wind instruments, and played the clarinet. When he was five, Garcia’s dad drowned in a fly fishing accident in California, and earlier that year, his brother Tiff cut off his right middle finger in a wood chopping accident. After his fathers death, he moved in with his grandparents before returning to live with his mother. When he was fifteen his older brother introduced him to rock and roll and blues. At the same time, his mother bought him an electric guitar, and his musical journey began.
I want to argue in my research paper that Giacomo Puccini's operas changed how operas were written, in terms of the music, the performance, and the plot. I found some interesting information in my research which can definitely help to support my argument.
Jerry Garcia was able to combine multiple genres of music into Rock and Roll and took playing the guitar to new heights, quite like Jimi Hendrix. Garcia inspired many artists and bands of his time like: The New Riders of the Purple Sage, The Allman Brothers, Carlos Santana, and Bob Dylan. His influence also lives on today within bands like Phish, String Cheese, Dead and Company, The Dark Star Orchestra, The Dave Matthews Band, and Sublime. His humility and humble personality allowed him to stay focused only on the music.
Through the research I've done so far, I found that Jerry Garcia was born on August 1,1942 in San Francisco California and died on August 9, 1995 in California. His right middle finger was chopped off in a wood chopping accident when he was four and in the same year, his father died while fly fishing in the trinity river. Garcia’s mom remarried and they moved to Menlo Park. During this time he discovered rock and roll and the blues and began to play the five string banjo.
In Brazil the youth are being attracted by a sound wave of music as hundreds storm out on to the street to enjoy Baile Funk. Baile Funk in Brazil does not refer to a type of dance or music, it refers to the the actual dance parties where funk carioca is played. Funk carioca is the music played, it derives from Miami Bass and African style music. It originated and was popularized in Rio de Janeiro in the 1980’s.
According to Rolling Stone, the Beatles St. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band is the best album of all time. Followed by the Beach Boys Pet Sounds and The Beatles Revolver. But what classifies the best album of all time. Personally, my favorite album is Blink 182s Enema of the State because I grew up listening to the album and it holds nostalgic memory of my childhood. However, I do not think that this album is the best album of all time. If I were to rate the best albums of all time, I would probably rate the Beatles White Album followed by the Beach Boys Pet Sounds.
For my research paper, I want to do something about Puccini's operas. I am not exactly sure yet which question I will ask, so I thought I would start by finding information on his life, because that will definitely be part of my paper. Here is what I found:
His full name: Giacomo Antonio Domenico Michele Secondo Maria Puccini
Born in Tuscany in 1858, Dad died at age 6
Family was the musical dynasty of his hometown Lucca. Every man in the family was involved in music from his great grandfather. They wrote operas, composed church music, and were quite famous in the area.
In the first article, the author states with certainty that music tastes are determined by upbringing and cultural exposure. Although I think these are factors that contribute, I disagree that these are the only factors, and I could even argue that sometimes these factors don't play a part at all. There are huge turnouts of 20+-year-olds at electronic music festivals all around the U.S., even though most of it didn't exist when they were kids and even though electronic music is from Europe. This contradicts both of the theories.
It is commonly said that playing an instrument engages the ‘creative’ side of the brain. In my experience, music encourages creativity like all other art forms that is rarely experienced in a classroom or academic situation. It is an outlet for the stress that builds up due to everyday problems. But it is also more than that, it is a way to express myself in a way that is impossible to do at all other times. Music is much more raw than other forms of communication, it is emotional.
If I were to say the word revolutionary, what comes to mind? Someone like George Washington, a war hero? Or a magnanimous leader? What about a musician? More specifically, a contemporary band called Pentatonix. Pentatonix is an A Cappella group who won The Sing-Off in 2011. Their flawless and stunning arrangements bring a futuristic taste to their music, and a whole new feel entirely to a cappella. They've become extremely successful and are starting to achieve the impossible; they're making a cappella mainstream.
I think music is a big part of american culture because it helps us express ourselves. we can use music to express ourselves either when we are sad or mad or happy. Music can also tell a story about what happened in our lives.Dance is another part of american culture because we can also tell people how we feel through dance. Also through dance and music it can make us feel like we are human because it shows people how we are feeling without telling them in words. This is how I think music and dance is a big part of American culture.
Where did the music festivals begin? Many people would answer that question by saying that the 1969 Woodstock festival started the era of multiple day concerts, but the first music festival was in San Francisco in 1967. Mount Tam also known as the Fantasy Fair or the Magic Mountain Music Festival was the truth birth of music festivals. Today these festival are include many different genres of music rather then during the counter culture movement rock and roll was what ever wanted to see.
Based on the evidence in The Case of the Dead Musician I have concluded that Mr. Karazai was murdered by his son. My reasons include the evidence from the coroner, evidence from the crime scene photos, and evidence from a journal found on the crime scene.
This song would go with the scene where Atticus agrees to defend Tom Robinson. The song refers to the feeling of having terrible things occurring and being ignored by people. A prime example of this in To Kill a Mockingbird is the evil of racism. This song also really expresses what Atticus seemed to feel when he agreed to defend Tom Robinson, which was the need to not stand by and do nothing as a possibly innocent man is found guilty without a fair trial.
I live in a world where life is all surround around music. People blame others for their problems due to them listening to music that have no real meaning. Some people are interested what’s the next good pop song. But not seeing what really happening in front of them. Even though music is entertaining it’s forced on us.
Pop music is easy for you to learn or love because when your brain hears similar music on the daily basis your brain will eventually learn the music, it will get use to the music and catch on to the pop music. Listening to music is like studying for a test when you hear it over a couple of times and your brain remembers and cooperates with the music. When listening pop music is easy for you to learn. Pop music can be like any other music, doesn’t matter what music if your brain listens to it a couple of times it will eventually get easy to learn.
I'm a student at New Directions Secondary School in the Bronx.
