Nelson Mandela "i am fundamentally an optimist. Whether that comes form nature or nurture. i cannot say. Part of being optimistic is keeping one's head pointed towards the sun, one's feet moving forward. There were many dark moments when my faith in humanity was sorely tested, but i would not and could not give myself up to despair. That way lays defeat and death." Mandela was born on 18 July 1918 in the village of Mvezo in Umtatu. He was the first black South African to hold the office.
Upon reading 1984(Orwell), I've been curious about modern day comparisons to his dystopian world. In my research i've found an article that does a adequate job of giving examples of Orwell's fictional world becoming a reality. In the yahoo article i found, the writer, Christopher Clark, paints the picture of how modern day people would be outraged by what orwell is talking about but then goes on to give examples like public cameras every block, double think in terms of Christopher Columbus being a hero, and many more.
On the first page of TheGreat Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald there is a quote from the narrator's father. It states, "whenever you feel like criticizing anyone just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had." I can personally relate to this statement. I was born into a middle class family and therefore have had some more advantages than other kids. My parents constantly remind me of this fact. They always make sure I realize the advantages I've had and appreciate them.
