I've been researching the reasons behind the law that regulates the age of alcohol purchase and consumption. From what I've found so far there are many physical and mental reasons that the United States has one of the highest alcohol consumption age limits in the world. The United states enacted the 21 year old law with Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984. This was a federal law that declared if states failed to comply with the drinking age act then the state would lose up to 10% of their funding for federal highways.
Should the drinking age be lowered?
There have been many cases in which minors or people who have gotten in trouble with the law because of under aged drinking. This topic intrigues me because there have been studies where countries that don’t have a drinking age or don’t necessarily enforce their drinking age have less cases in which DUY’s are involved or severe crashes due to drunk driving. I’ve wanted to search information to see if these statistics are true.
