Spring is coming up and a new season is upon us. The sad thing about spring is that it has all the best sports yet you can only choose to do one. I personally love both soccer and softball but they’re both in the same season. I wish they did soccer in the fall so I could do it then. You could do soccer in the summer not with the school but what if you’re traveling. Why can’t they move it to the spring?
This past summer the 2014 FIFA World Cup took place and was hosted by Brazil. Every four years and over the span of one month, 32 qualifying countries soccer teams compete for the World Cup. Brazil was optimistic about their hosting, having more World Cup titles than any other country (five); however, there was some controversy due to Brazil’s economic status, and concern for how the country would pay for the stadiums in the host cities. This World Cup saw some contenders that are not regular World Cup competitors, such as Algeria and Nigeria.
In 2014 there were a a lot of things that had a a rather big and lasting impact on me. One of them would be the Fifa World Cup that was held in Brazil. The World Cup was held from June 12 to July 13, the total cost was eleven billion dollars!! By many it was rated as the best yet, fans from everywhere were cheering for their countries. However, it was not because I was a soccer fan (I do not like soccer). It was the fact that I had flown to Peru for a service project just as the games began! Although I was not in Brazil, Peru was close enough to feel the intensity of these soccer games.
The most overpowering, patriotic sport of America is hands-down football. Family dinners are centered around the tv during a Sunday night football game, where emotions are high, and so are the stakes. This summer, mid June through July, when football was no longer in season, this focus shifted to the World Cup.

Before, the strategy that I used to organize my ideas was “Research & add”. Technically, every time that I had finished researching a subtopic I would add it to my concept map. When I first started this research my central topic was “Soccer players are getting paid too much money”, but as I continued I decided to change it a little. While I was going through the beginning of the research I noticed that there wasn’t a lot to say about this, so I changed my central topic into making it more general, Soccer.
The Sao Paulo stadium, formerly Arena Corinthians, locally Itaquerao, was facing some renovations to prepare for the World Cup in 2014. This stadium will host the opening game on July 12th. The country has been cramming to meet deadlines set by FIFA resulting in an accident at the stadium in November 2013. Part of a 500-ton metal structure crashed through the outer walls of the Stadium. This took out all the seats on the east side of the stadium as well as an LED panel that runs across the stadiums entrance. Two workers were killed and one man hospitalized.
There have been plenty of controversies regarding the World Cup since the original game in 1930.
At the first games they didn't have an official ball, and in the very first final game in 1930, Uruguay and Argentina disagreed over what ball to use. The teams decided to settle the dispute by using Uruguay's ball int the first half and Argentina's in the second. This controversy was later resolved by having an official ball. The first official ball wasn't selected until 1970- Telstar in Mexico.
There are 12 stadiums throughout the country of Brazil that will host games of the World Cup 2014 Brazil. All the stadiums were either brand new for the tournament or went through some renovations to support the Cup.
Many renovations included things such as sustainability and accessibility. Many stadiums also went through renovations to the roof and nearby areas adding hotels, restaurants, and movie theaters.
Soccer enthusiasts look forward every four years to the new design of the world cup ball.
In the early years of the Cup in the early 1900s, the ball was made of leather with six panels of three strips. It was impossible to make these balls perfectly round and they had some flat surfaces. It was difficult to dribble or predict the ball's movement in the air. Also, the leather would soak up water and become heavy. This even caused some injuries to players. The ball also wasn't reliable and would need to be pumped up at least once during the match.
The World Cup
The World Cup makes positive and negative economic and political impacts on the sponsoring country every. My research project will be exploring how the Cup affects poor versus wealthy countries.
In 2010 South Africa experienced some positive effects. They benefited from the new infrastructure and the new transportation systems. People also found South Africa to be a safer country, and the tourism in the country was boosted. During the World Cup 500,000 people visited the country, and there were 130,000 jobs created.
Historically speaking South American and European countries have been the powerhouses in World Cups, the past Worlds Cup have had winner from these regions. Just like how in football countries like Germany and the Netherlands have been dominate in world history these countries have also started many movements that shaped the world that we live in today. Germany for one was responsible for spawning Adolf Hitler who would go on to try and wipe out all Jews, they’re also responsible for Eisenhower to get the inspiration to build highways after seeing how well they worked for Germans.

The topic that i have chosen for my research is why is soccer a complex sport. This topic is interesting for me because soccer is my favorite sport and i love talking about soccer. The things i knew about this topic before i research sources were that one must maintain balance and make quick decisions before the opponent takes the ball away from you. I also knew the different ways that one can kick the ball. Some interesting things that i wanted to know before searching up sources were how does one have to kick the ball to be able to do those different kind of kicks.
In John Tierney's Op-Ed piece, "Kicking the Soccer Habit," from The New York Times (June 24, 2006), the author summarizes how people pay attention to many sports, but soccer the most entertaining, and has the least amount of breaks than any other sport. Yet not many people tend to watch soccer as much as they watch other sports.

When I was 11 years old I use to be on the soccer team at school .I was the striker meaning I was the forward player for the team .One day we were playing on St Lucy ground opposed a team named pine hill. In the second half of the game the coach transferred me on the field and I racked up my first perfection game goal. I was really excited and everyone started running up to me and cheering me and telling me that was a nice goal we won the game that day and I was the talk of the school for weeks .I felt very excited because I help my school win.
Something that I have been interested in learning more about has been soccer and how it may or may not be a dangerous sport. I remember watching a news reporter talking about it, but I was still confused and didn’t understand the meaning of it. Some people say that it is a dangerous sport because others only care about winning so they think the right way to win a game is by being aggressive and possibly hurting other teammates. From what I heard soccer can be a dangerous sport because a lot of players think the right way to win a game is by hurting others.
