Summay of Call of the Wild

I finished Jack London's Call of the Wild today. It wasn't that long of a book only 83 pages, but it was really good. It follows the story of a dog named Buck. He gets taken from his home in California at the time of the Yukon Gold Rush. He is sold as a sledge dog to two men,  Francois and Perrault, who use him as one of the dogs on their team. This team makes record runs on trails in Alaska and this is where Buck first learns the Harshness of Alaska and the hard work he has to do. Eventually he learns to love and takes Pride in It. He wins the spot of top and lead dog on the team when he kills the lead dog, Spitz, who has been Buck's enemy. Once they got separated from their masters they had a death match where Buck won.

I have not experienced or observed many things like the events that take place in the book Animal Farm, by George Orwell. It is a very interesting book, and it has captured my attention. I wish I could say I have experienced a lot of things as the animals have in the book so far, but then again, maybe I do not because they do not seem very happy. The only event that I observed that has any relation to this book took place when I was in tenth grade. The seniors did not like their religion teacher, and they decided to do something about it. They concluded to not go to class because they could not stand him. This did not go over as smoothly as they had hoped it would I assume, but on the bright side, the teacher asked their advice on how to make the class better. This is similiar to the animals taking the farm away from Jones, the mean drunken farmer, and making their own rules, but to a much lesser degree. It was not anything too drastic, but I haven't forgoten about it, which means it was a big deal at the time.

1/19/11 Impressions of The Catcher in the Rye

I have high hopes for this novel, as many (such as my mother) hold it to be one of the greatest books written, and it widely viewed as a classic. So far however, these hopes have yet to be realized. The writing style has a sort of stream of consciousness feel that I don't wholly enjoy. But the author is very funny and witty in the twenty some odd pages I have read. I think it will shape up to be an interesting tale, but I have yet to understand why it is a classic of literature from the little I have experienced of it.
