I have decided to write about Global warming because it is something we don't normally talk about, and for that matter we don't do much about. Global warming is mostly caused by humans because of our lack of knowledge and care about the environment. The first signs of trouble in the ozone layer were noticed in 1985 and seens , the problem hasn't gotten any better
NASA just released an article discussing their Planck Telescope that has been detecting the remnant light from the Big Bang explosion that created our universe. The high frequency sensor ran out of coolant on January 14, but the low frequency sensor is still alive and kicking. Although NASA is not the leader of the Planck mission, their help was essential in both the analysis of the data and the workings of the mission itself.
According to NASA, the perfect nap is 26 minutes. The number is a bit odd, but according to scientists, this nap can relieve stress, lower the risk of cardiovascular disease, help concentration, and make people more alert. A short nap of 26 minutes, helped air traffic controllers perform 34% better, and raised their alertness by 54%.
Dr. Gonzalo Arboleda says that naps like this are beneficial to adults, but essential to kids and the elderly. A nap this short, will allow people to be more alert, and more healthy, but it won't effect their sleep at night.
On August of 2012, Curiosity, Nasa's most capable rover ever, will land on Mars to begin a 697 day observation. Curiosity , a six wheeled rover about the size of a small car, will take samples of the rocks found on Mars to determine the planet's history. Curiosity's main objective is to find out whether or not Mars has or ever has had the necessary elements for supporting life.
If you were up this morning at about 3 a.m., you might have been lucky enough to catch the first meteor shower of the new year. These meteors, called Quadrantids, have a maximum rate of about 100 per hour. Unfortunately, the Quads tend to last only a few hours (a shorter amount of time than most showers), so if you missed them this morning, you probably won't be seeing them again for a while. These little babies are most likely fragments from a comet that broke apart several centuries ago, and whizzed by this morning at 90,000 mph.
Recently NASA announced that in the upcoming september launch of the Discovery shuttle they plan to have an active humanoid robot on board. Nasa has been experiementing with robots since the late 90's, and they have finally developed a prototype worthy of accompanying the NASA astronauts into space. This robot isn't anything like the rovers NASA has landed on the moon and mars. This robot's soul function will be to act as an extra pair of hands aboard the discovery, this robot will be programmed to preform many of the same tasks the astronauts learn during their training. Not only is it programmed to act like the astronauts, it is actually given a human like form for the psychological purpose of helping the astronauts adapt to its presence. This robot is therefore not merely a machine, but a form of artificial intelligence capable of making decisions. A recent article from wired magazine quoted the robot team manager Nic Radford as saying,
Future space exploration will also mean the development of new and improved space suits to wear in the environment of the space vacuum, as well as suits developed especially for
Despite all the problems we humans are dealing with here on earth right now, we are still keeping an optimistic eye pointed out of this world. Our most recent venture to explore the cosmos is
I think that Green Party candidate, Cynthia McKinney is interested in the youth, their likes and dislikes. Out of all the candidates, she would be a person that would hold more interest in making our community more futuristic, and safer for our young citizens.
The quest for intelligent life beyond our own planet has been arguably humanities greatest dream. The idea that somewhere way out there amoung the cosmos exists a planet and beings who share the same kind afinity for knowledge, and answers to universe that we do. As humans we yearn to make a discovery of such beings so we can say that no longer are we alone.
