Reflecting on the Recording Process for My Monologue/Photo Essay

I did 65% of my work taking photos for the Photo Essay. When I was doing my work, I had to face some challenges. I took the photos only by myself, so it took a really long time for me to finish taking them. Moreover, because I did the work by myself, so the angles of the photos were not really good. I'm thinking about taking them again. However, because I had some photoshop skills, and also some good ideas in my mind, I could make the photos more beautiful, and more emotional. People would be able to understand, to feel what I want to tell them. That was my advantage.

My understanding of this project is to act out a page of the book "Down these mean streets". I think this play would help someone out who is reading this book to understand a certain part of the book better and to have some kind of idea to what the book is talking about.

We learn something interesting about one of the characters, Piri on page 110 where it says: "'Snort, man,' Waneko said. 'It's H.' How can I make out of this? I was thinking. 'Nay, dad, I've been blasting yerba. I have a going high and I don't want to mess it up.' 'Oh, man,' said Alfredo, 'I'm digging maybe you're fronting now, cool Piri, making like you're a down stud. Now I ain't signifying, but I never dug you for a punk" This is typical of how Piri acts in this book, so far. He often seems to be a "bad" teen doing what he pleases, including drugs.

I am reading “Down These Mean Streets” By Piri Thomas. On Page 103 he writes: “I opened my mouth to answer and Louie and I knew what was shakin’ at the same f...’ time. The difference between me and Louie was he was white.” While reading I noticed that Piri had been dealing with racism a lot in his life lately. He left Long Island because even though his skin was not colored, people still called him out because of his name, referring to him as a “Negro”.
