Portrait

This is the picture I took while experimenting with portraits of another person. I feel that I caught Mr. Strasser, the teacher posing, in an area which he spends most of his time. He is our schools gym teacher and spends his time there. Another intresting factor to the photo is the pose which he is holding. It shows you what kind of person he is. He can be serious and fierce, but if u look closely you still see a small smile. I took this photo by putting my camera in easy mode which seems to adjust all the settings back to defualt. I found it interesting how the lights on the celing came out because in reality they aren't that bright. Another technical piece which I tried to use while taking this photo using the soft snap feature meaning that the picture is taken with a soft background.

 The photo that I took is a double portrait. The two subjects in the photo are my friend, and my other friend`s dog. The double portrait only shows the upper part of both the dog and my friend, which draws more attention to their face. Since my friend isn`t the dog`s owner, I find it interesting to see the relationship between both my friend and my other friends dog. As there is a balance between brighter and darker colors in the photo, I find that the colors stand out more. I feel that between the expressions of the subjects, and the colors of the photo, there photo brings an overall strong mood.

This is a double portrait that shows the relationship between best friends. They say that a picture is worth 1,000 words, I think that this picture has a story behind it. Unlike a usual portrait which shows two faces head on this photo shows both the relationship between these two people and the setting. I also shot this photo from above because it gave it a better look. I also wanted to crop the blurry hand but then I decided that I liked the effect it had on the picture. This shows the intimacy of the moment which is hard to capture!

 This is a portrait I took of another person. I used Annie as my model for various reasons. The white background clearly contrasted her eyes, her hair and her face. Annie has a similar look to Lindsay Lohan, as well, and she was wearing a grey sweatshirt. We both decided it would be a cool and comedic idea to do her portrait looking like the famous mugshot of Lindsay Lohan. Using a canon rebel, and a separate flash light, the picture greatly brings out the eyes on Annie. Her shadow is also greatly reflected, and the color of her hair is brought out immensely. 

 This is my self portrait that I took while experimenting during the portrait unit. This was one of the many I took and felt that it came out best as a whole. I feel that I didn't come out great in this photograph but the shadow in the back made me select it because it changes the focus on the portrait. The shadow adds a small glare to my eye as well and I feel as if it shows me in a calm and quiet mood which I enjoy most. In order to take this self portrait I had to put on a self timer and put my camera on a wooden stool. This was taken in my room with a light small light being shinning at me. I turned the flash off as well. 

For the next part of our assignment we had to take a portrait of someone else. I found this to be a lot easier than trying to take a picture of myself. I chose to take the picture in black and white because I thought that the letters on the book stood out. At first the eye is drawn to the book, but as you move upward you see the funny expression on my friends face.

This is my self portrait, I chose it because I think it is an interesting angle as it was taken from above. I used Picnik to edit the hues and saturation in the image.

Our current goal was to take a self portrait. Before attempting it, I thought that it would be difficult but not a huge challenge. However, once I got my camera out and began to snap pictures of myself, I realized that it was indeed a challenge. Because I was not able to see how the picture looked like through the lens, most of them came out blurry. This picture, however, I felt captured my personality well. Also, I thought that the lighting in the photo was cool. 

This is a presentation of how to take a good portrait. The most important thing I learned from my other classmates is to have a good connection with your subject. If your subject feels uncomfortable you will be able to see it in your picture.

After taking my own portraits of my family I learned that you should not let other people control you while taking your picture. You are the photographer and they need to listen to you

Taking portraits is very difficult for me; I like to look at a scene and just take pictures, setting people up and moving them and pulling emotion from them is really hard for me. However, I did learn some things from taking family photos, usually younger kids give you emotion, while older people you have to create and find their emotion. My little brother was really easy to shoot, because he is animated and always goofing around. My parents however were a lot less cooperative. I also learned that finding a background that helps to compliment your subjects is very difficult, especially with multiple people in the shot, or a large depth of field.

Here is a presentation I made about how to take a good portrait. There are three main topics I research to taking a good portrait. My favorite attribute I found to taking a good portrait is making the subject look at another object instead of the camera.
