This week all of our advisory classes were on the topic of HIV and AIDS. We learned about the immune system as a basis of what happens when you get HIV, and then we talked about prevention and transmission. Even though I have learned about this subject every single year since I was at this school, I think that the refreshment of facts is an enforcement in every single student's memories to just be as safe as possible and make the right decisions. Making the right decisions can help you reach your full potential in life and succeed to the fullest extent.

Every year we have the lessons about HIV and AIDS and we are taught about the dangers of unprotected sex and sharing needles, and every year we learn about abstinence and protection. A lot of people complain about having to go through the same lessons and talking about the immune system and having really awkward conversations with our teachers and classmates. There are a lot of giggles and lots of really funny moments after teachers read out the names of body parts and bodily fluids when everybody just cracks up because of the awkwardness of the situation.

HIV/AIDS is a huge problem that is affecting the lives of million of people today. Teens are specially the most prone to getting it due to known teenage risky and reckless behavior. Over the years, I have been educated about how to prevent this disease and other sexually transmitted diseases. It is a very sensitive topic that many would rather not talk about, but I think it is so much better to be uncomfortable or embarrassed for a few minutes while you learn about it than make mistakes that will make you uncomfortable for the rest of your life.
