Maya, the protagonist in I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, has a few traits that influence her relationships with others.
One, she is overwhelmed . Two, she is mischievous. Three, she is shy.
These traits influence her relationships with others. “Bailey and I hated him unreservedly. He was ugly, fat, and he laughed like a hog with the colic.” overwhelming comes into play when she remembers when Reverend Thomas comes to the house for a visit and he takes the last piece of the Chicken at the dinner table. Maya feels uncomfortable and never liked him.
Every interpretation is not equally valid, but an interpretation can make sense. Furthermore, I think my interpretation of the poem “The Sunlight on the Garden” by Louis MacNeice makes sense. I think what MacNeice is doing is explaining life and how it goes on pointing to death.
In the first stanza on line one, “Sunlight on the Garden” means giving life. Then in the third line, “…Cage the minutes” means that time is limitless or basically life is. In the first few lines I feel a sense of hopelessness and despair.
