From diving deeper into my research paper, what I've always known about guns and gun related deaths is cemented in my brain as being the truth. Strengthening my beliefs about the subject. People only looking at the surface of the subject and not investigating the actual truths. But I feel like it's like that with a lot of different things in this country. People seeing only the tip of the iceberg and not what't under the water.
People that own guns like myself have been under fire lately because of the increase in gun violence lately in certain areas. What bothers me is that people aren’t looking at the actually statistics of gun related deaths. About 80% of homicides in the country are gang related and I’m sure the guns they used are illegally bought too. You look at Chicago with some of the strictest gun laws in the country yet they still have one of the highest murder rates in the country. If you can’t stop the guns, why wouldn’t you try to make it a fair fight?
2025, a generation completely reformed. Every home, school, hospital, subway, coffee shop, library, movie theatre, and citizen, equipped with a legal handgun. Imagine a future where the means of defense is defined by the ability to shoot a firearm, no recollection of negotiation or peaceful communication skills from the past.
Violence in school has been a recurring issue for many years. Unfortunately, school shootings have become more and more prevalent as time goes on. At first many thought that those who barged into school with weapons suffered from mental illnesses. This however, was quickly disproven. While some shooters have had mental illnesses, it was not the reason that they committed such violent acts.
A Colorado state representative, Patrick Neville, has proposed legislation that will allow any teacher or staff member that has a concealed weapons permit to carry that weapon in the public schools through the state.
On my last post I discussed whether or not concealed weapons should be allowed everywhere. I recently read an article about concealed carry in California. The article, "New court decision could end California's restrictions on conceal-carry permits", was about how in California people would be allowed to get concealed carry permits. California can no longer use their laws to keep people from obtaining concealed carry permits. They claimed that not being able to have conceal carry was violating their second Amendment right.
The political issue I chose was should concealed guns be allowed everywhere. This matters to me because it concerns my safety and the people around me. I think that people should be allowed to carry concealed weapons, but I also think there should be limits placed on where they can take the weapons.I don’t think concealed weapons should be allowed in schools or campuses. There is no reason to carry a gun everywhere you go.
Jonah Goldberg says that you shouldn’t blame movies, politics, and TV that is being displayed in throughout the world for entertainment in his article “Blaming the culture is no answer to mass shootings” Goldberg argument represents that you should blame the person for doing all of these crazy things to people.
Goldberg uses the strategy Logos to persuade the audience by stating “ About a third of the U.S householders own guns, according to the surveys, but the number may be higher than that.”
Its been more than a year since New Town. Politicians have said they will pass gun laws and bla..bla..bla. People have cried. But they've done nothing except encourage gun violence.
Adam Lanza used a Bushmaster in his school shooting. Rather than people boycotting guns or even that particular gun, Bushmaster sales surged and gained. That's why we need gun control in at least urban areas. Opponents of gun control will say that if everybody has a gun than you can defend yourself. This is not true.
My name is Keshia Tillman i am a Senior at Fremont High School. In my English class we are reading a book called Native Son. This book is about a teenage black male named Bigger Thomas who is poor and works for a rich white family. The Dalton's ,which is the family that Bigger works for , were racist. One day he accidentally kills the daughter of the Dalton's and later owned killed his girlfriend Bessie. Eventually he gets caught by the police, and has to do a long trial in a court room filled with white people who see him as nothing but a animal.
In the past, I have thought a lot about how I might die some day, in particular how I’d prefer to die. My preference has always been that I’d just go to sleep some night and never wake up. Of the other ways, I might die, there is of course a continuum from more to less desirable.
My least preferable way of dying is to get a long term consumptive disease, such as cancer or Aids, and gradually waste away from that. I’d not like to die by fire or drowning. An accident could be unpleasant, but if it were a quick death, that would be fine. The list goes on.
There has been a lot of recent debate about whether this country needs to restrict guns to prevent crimes and massacres or if taking away guns will only leave citizens angry and defenseless.
By banning guns, citizens are being unconstitutionally robbed of their right to protect themselves along with the peace of mind that comes with being able to protect their family in their own home.
The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution is the part of the United States Bill of Rights that states: "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." I agree that as Americans we have a guaranteed rights to gun ownership, but we should also have stricter laws on guns in order to ensure that guns are in the hands of people who will use them correctly. I think better and longer background checks, gun tracking devices and mental illness checks would help a lot with gun control.
Guns are necessary and very helpful for you to have now a days to protect your family and your property. What would you do if some one broke in to your house and tried to hurt you or your family. So think about this you are sound a sleep I. Your house one night and then all of a sudden you hear a window break. What do you do? Your alarm clock is not going to protect you from a person breaking into you house. So you go overs and pick up your hand gun and see what the noise is. Just the visual threat of a gun is enough to stop a person.
The past few months have been controversial ones for our country. It seems as if we witness yet another gun debate every time we turn on the news, but restricting gun laws is not what we should solely be focused on at this crucial time. Instead, we must ask ourselves who is committing the massacres in schools, movie theatres, and malls across the country, not necessarily what tool they are using to carry out the deed. In 9 out of 10 cases- the answer is someone who is suffering from a mental illness- schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, and depression.
There are many people who purchase a gun, they say its for protection but you never know when it is going to be used. There was once a group of zebras that were just looking for a new home they wanted their home to be safe and to have a lot of food and water. It was hard to find the right spot so they had to search really hard. They were all passing by a group of elephants and out of nowhere the elephants all gathered up and started to attack the zebras they started to kick and move away them. The zebras weren’t looking for trouble all they were looking for was to find a right home.
Something that I have been interested in learning more about has been
the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting. I remember my mother talking about it when it happened, but I didn’t learn about it much because I was working and I barely had time to watch the news. It was all over the news and media, so much different information they had I didn’t want to get confused so i figured i’d wait until the real story was set.
We all have the rights to own reasonable gun's, like a rifle for hunting, a shotgun for game birds and a hand gun for home protection, if we have a clear criminal record and no mental issue's we should have no problem qualifying in the background check before the purchase of guns. We then have the responsibility to ensure all these guns are secured in a steel lockable gun safe away from children, and if we ever need the children to use guns, send them to gun safety training courses.
Gun laws are a complicated thing. There are many different opinions about what we should do about gun's and how they should be used.
I personally think that they should not take away guns because some people do use them in the right way. What if you are being attacked? Do you not have the right to defend yourself?
I think that if they take away guns then it will cause more of a riot. Since Newton, there has been 3 schools shootings, big and small. There has also been cases of people just going on campuses with guns threatning to use them but not using them.
As I read this book the more I see how Jewish people suffered. The way Elie Wiesel explains every detail towards the arrival to the arrival to the concentration camp makes me feel sad. The way he describes how people suffered, how children cried you feel like you are there. The way he describes the horror he felt when he found out about the crematory sends shivers to your spine. Just to imagine all that he went through breaks my heart. Jewish people suffered and went through horror. It was like a nightmare you can't wake up from. I feel the author’s pain and suffering.
In USA today's opinion piece," Improve Semiautomatic Weapons Ban", USA today talks about the effects of gun bans and what they would hope to accomplish. They slightly lean towards the pro ban side but give back up for each opinion.
They use logos to support their claim in paragraph five when they say "A Justice Department study found that the 1994 ban was responsible for a 6.7% decrease in gun murders the following year." This is basically saying that since the gun ban took effect they saw a decrease in gun murders.
