Their has been a long time debate on such a notorious question? Should we make school hours longer? Some people believe that having more hours of school could be to much pressure on a student, making them lose their focus and concentration after a certain period of time. Other people believe that having longer school days can help students get more work done, and help them catch up with the curriculum of other countries. After all, China has school hours from 7:30 A.M to 5:00 P.M, according to "Infoplease."
In Psychology, my class is studying the teenage brain and teenage behavior; we began discussing REM sleep patterns and how teenagers should be getting nine to nine and a half hours a sleep a night- which to most of us, seems nearly impossible. As teenagers tend to have more positive brain activity after deep REM sleep, I’m curious to how academic performance among students and the school environment in general would change if the school start time was an hour later.
I read The Doomsday Book by Connie Willis. This book was very entertaining to read, and my group had very interesting conversations that were very mind boggling at points. The book started off very abruptly, and I didn’t enjoy the beginning as much as I did the ending but that is mostly because it was very confusing. But once the book got off the ground, it was exceptional.
After reading U.S.-Cuba Relations, I found that before 1959, when Fidel Castro came to power, the United States and Cuba had a decent relationship. After the Spanish-American war in 1898, Cuba received independence from Spain, and the United States Forces occupied Cuba until 1902. During the 1940’s-1950’s (as seen in the movie The Godfather) one could see the two countries cooperating together.
In truth, I did not comprehend the facts
Perhaps the Universe is made of time?
Time to be going and time to diffract
From catastrophe or partners in crime
Could this make me completely made of time?
For time is the only true currency
Even the stars die, but die with a shine
The stars, they can conceal their clemency
They can burn and bulge and glow with color
But eyes to the telescope can reveal
The truth inside the eyes of the Scholars
Scientists and Madmen are roulette wheels
They prove the innocence of time and space
And yet they still get caught up in the chase
Is college worth the price? Many students that graduate from high school would usually go to college and spend a lot of money on their classes and books; the cost of those things are around hundreds of dollars and can quickly empty your wallet with no money left to spend on other needs. I say that college is worth the price if you can make the most out of it by learning new things that couldn’t be taught during high school.
I’m pretty sure that many people complain about the cost of tuition for college. Lots of people depend on scholarships and student loans to help them pay it off, especially low-income families. I know I will. College can take people far, but for others, they might drop out and land elsewhere. I think college is not worth the cost because of tuition and other factors that go into the cost and the work and time you put in getting into college.
One thing that I am interested in learning more about is why does culture change throughout the years. I don’t think we touched too much on this subject in class but I would like to think about this more. I am still young but I have observed how different cultures shift from what they were before, and in large spans in time they morph even more. I think it might be because people always have new and improved ideas and beliefs that impact culture as a whole. It also might have to do with people always searching for the new and improved thing wanting new experiences.
In the opposing viewpoints database from Gale, I found some interesting information. Many people wonder what the effect of going into a black hole would be. And the answer depends on the point of view. The person actually going into it would experience something totally unidentifiable; for all we know, he could be transported to a different universe. But since nothing can escape the gravitational pull of a black hole, there is no way of retrieving information after it passes the horizon or singularity inside the black hole.
I was in my house and I wanted to take picture of the pocket watch my friend got me awhile ago. My theme that I got was people and posing, but I wanted to try something different. I set it on my dining room table and got on level with it. I like how the windows light the photo from the side and the color of the table contrasts with the color of the pocket watch. Along with getting on eye level with the subject, there is slight shallow depth of field. The grain of the wood in the table is more in focus in the front of the photo then when you start moving back.
Use the time in each day the way people use them to waste. Each minute is a important one in performing to your highest point. Goals aren't waiting, you need to make the first step and keep going. Use the minutes in a hour to the fullest use like you use all your skills in a game of basketball, or in studying for a test coming up. don't be like others, don't waste time!
Summer vacation is different for everybody. What may seem to be an ideal summer vacation for one may be different for the other. While some may disagree with my idea of summer vacation, others may share the idea I have for an ideal summer vacation. It is a time where there is no school, sun, and free time, time for relaxing and being with family. It is doing what you enjoy and not worrying about deadlines. Even though everyone's idea for summer vacation is different, summer vacation is commonly thought of as a time for relaxation, enjoying what things you do, and being worry free.
Recently I read Einstein’s Dreams. It’s a very interesting book, it was actually recommended to me by my science teacher. It doesn’t have a “plot”, but every once in awhile it pauses the book and goes to the point of view of Besso, one of Einsteins very close friends. The rest of the book is all these really interesting possibilities for different ways time and space could work, in different universes or in ours. Here’s an example of one of the multiple concepts shown in the book:
Homework is a topic which has drawn my attention a while ago, and I finally have the opportunity to have an input in this. Ever since I got my first homework, which was tracing letter and rewriting my name, I have questioned it’s importance. I didn't have to research an abundance of website to know what homework is, since it’s something everyone goes through. Homework isn't a waste of time, but it also depends on what type of student it is. If it’s a student that doesn't do anything in class, then that student depends on the homework to pass.
The Forever War by Joe Haldeman is his take on a intergalactic war between humanity and an alien race; The Taurans, originally written in 1974. The then recently ended Vietnam war has obvious effects on the novels content, with the book having a strong anti-war message imbedded in it's content. The key concept of the book is theoretical time dilation, an effect associated with the concept of near the speed of light travel. What this means is that for example; on a ship traveling at near light speed for it's crew a day may pass.
I wanted to know how long we have til our non-renewable resources will run out and we have depleted them. Richard Sear a former VP for shell, believes that with the technology of today and tomorrow we will have a different way to use resources that they will last longer if not a new dependable resource all together. Thorium, is looking like a great new choice as a dependable resource. It is similar to nuclear energy, but does not have the harsh byproducts and is very cheap and commonly found.
Leo Rogers from http://nrich.maths.org/6070 seems to be a regular blogger. In one article he wrote about the measurement of time, he is very focused on the fact that time used to be measured by the sun, moon, and stars. I never knew that the moon and the stars were used to measure time as well as the sun. I also learned a little bit about why they chose 360 days in a year, mostly based upon the fact that 60 has many divisors and that they believe the sun and stars moved about 1 degree each day. It was also based on their mathematics that they believed in.
Many of the buildings, stores, movies and streets have changed in the Bronx over time. There has been construction, tranistion and most of all change.Movie theaters use to be drive throughs.People would come in theri car and watch a movie or two in a parking lot.Years later we make the transition into indoor movie theaters. The streets have become more wider, comparing to how narrow they use to be.The veichles we drive have become larger. One of the major changes are the pople within the bronx itself. We have changed how we act with ecah other and our personalities as well. Our community has nurtured w
Space is seen in three dimensions. Time on the other hand is seen as it’s own dimension known as the fourth dimension. The combination of these two aspects create an idea known as space-time. In this, space is looked at as a flat surface that exists in an area. This area would be time.
The first three parts of Chapter 6 (pages 103-118) of Life is Funny by E.R. Frank might leave a reader disappointed because it suggests that teenagers don't know how to practice safe sex, don't plan to complete high school and can't even be responsible. An example of this is on page 105: "I end up smoking cigarettes on the handball courts." This is not acceptable because she's pregnant and smoking cigarettes which is bad and makes her look like she doesn't care at all. If you're going to keep a baby, then take caution with some of the actions you do.
Is time travel possible? Paul Davies, author of "How to Build a Time Machine" thinks so. "The short answer is that time travel into the future is not only possible, it's been done, and we've known about it for over a century," he says. He thinks that the closer you travel to the speed of light, the slower time moves for you. For example, if you took off in a fighter jet, flew around for a few hours, and came back, your clock would be billionths of seconds off from the clocks on the ground.
I designed this logo because I feel like it relates to basically youth voices and the website because this website is full of different kind of people who express themselves. It shows that everyone has a voice, and that whatever they have to say does matter and counts.
Basically, to get into the college of my choice, I need to have three important components: 1. my grades are at the top of the class 2. SAT score have to be at least 2100 3. extracurricular activities/ giving back to our community.
How Can I afford the costs of both my family and the family I am going to be raising? Is it possible or am I going to have to send my parents to a place where they supporet them? What if in twenty years from now I do not succeed in getting a job that supports me? Is it possible to get a good paying job in this economy? A possible solution is to do good in school and try your hardest to go to college and find work. If you are not able to support your parents, then maybe you can ask them if they are willing to support themselves until you come into money.
