This year in our digital photography class, we were assigned to make a compilation of a place close to our hearts, and to photograph it in the three seasons spanning our class. I chose to photograph the Old Mill, a decrepit building right by my house. I drive by it every day, at least twice, sometimes more, so I have plenty of opportunities to examine it. The Old Mill has a rich history. At first it was, as hinted at in the name, a mill. As it became less used, it was transformed into a haunted house.
The book ABC of Architecture really does help the reader understand the whole idea of the importance of every step that needs to be taken in order for the building to be constructed properly. This quote is important because it really communicates what the design of architect really does. The design of an architect isn’t simply a whole bunch of shapes that are put together in order to be able to make a plan and call it a design. An architect has to be able to properly include specifications and also how everything is going to be built. I think that the design is like a picture.
On one my first days at Rocking the Boat, I had started cutting the sides of the nest box, making sure that all the sides are the same. The roof had to be tight so that it won’t have space so water could go in. Using the saw was cool!

Here I am trying to put the box together, but still making sure all the angles are good.
Jose and I talk about the Rocking the Boat Project, what we did the first and second days. We started to get the measurements for the wood so that we could cut it to make nest boxes. We learned that there are different types of birds, and we've seen five different types of birds on the Bronx River so far. We're looking forward to doing more this spring.
Here I am cutting the sides of our nest box for Tree Swallows. Yesterday students from my school and I went to Rocking the Boat again.
It was cool using the binoculars to look at the different types of birds from afar. First we stood in a line and there was a bird in the tree. I think I saw a crow. Then we all went to the park and saw more birds. Every time a student saw a bird he or she would have to describe the beak, color, the wings span, the size of the bird and then something advanced like its habitat or where they live.
