What’s With Kids These Days?
I have grown up in an environment that is surrounded by growing adolescents,as any person does, but I have been blessed with the opportunity to observe people grow because my mother is a First Grade teacher. I often visit her class and other children at the schools’ Daycare, and have noticed an increasing trend: we are in a ‘New Age,’ and this ‘New Age’ is affecting our society’s government, political system, and -most of all- our children. This is the age of Political Correctness.
The connection of ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) to the fasted growing faith in the World, Islam, is causing an unimaginable amount of fear and violence towards innocent Muslims in the United States and throughout the Globe. The American government’s responsibility to the safety and well being of its people is more important than ever.
Since the the year 1999, ISIS has been gaining popularity and posing a grave threat to not only the safety of the United States, but to all surrounding nations. This radical jihadist group gained major popularity when they obtained and beheaded hostages in late 2014, and these acts relate much to the complete dominion Big Brother accomplishes in the popular novel by George Orwell, 1984. As Big Brother is constantly changing laws and has complete reign over its citizens, " ISIS controls hundreds of square miles where state authority has evaporated.
When we consider the issue of ISIS some might wonder why did ISIS start a war with the world? Yousef Munayyer's essay addresses this question because this article explains the one way ISIS could be destroyed, and that one way is to end the Syrian civil war.
Surely- and hopefully, everyone that has taken a history class has learned or realized that blaming an entire race or religion for the world's tragedies has never solved a thing. Better yet, punishing an entire race or religion for these things only creates more problems and oppression. It has become evident enough that although this seems like a very obvious mistake, humans still continue to follow the same order of history in this day of age. Today, many are blaming Islamic people for the destruction that the terrorist group, Isis, has inflicted.
I just read a wikipedia article: Islamic state of Iraq and the Levant.
Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. (2015, December 14). Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia. Retrieved 16:13, December 18, 2015 fromhttps://simple.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Islamic_State_of_Iraq_and_the_Levant&oldid=5280980.
I like this article because this article has a lot of information. I say that because this article gave me a lot of information that I did not know before I read this article. Also this article gave me the information in the simplest way possible.
When we consider the issue of ISIS, some might wonder: Why did ISIS start a war with the world? In this article, Lee Ferran and Rym Momtaz address this question that explains, “why ISIS started killing people and rampaging in village?” and it shows one of Barack Obama quotes about ISIS.
In 2015, many Americans seemed to become more fearful of the outside world. While many may argue that this is primarily due to the increasingly bad situation in Syria, there have been forces inside our country driving us towards this as well. In a political rally just this week, as reported by the New York Times, Donald Trump announced that the U.S. should no longer be allowing Muslims to enter the country. What is even more surprising is that many Americans support him in this notion; more and more people are viewing Islam as a basis for terrorism rather than a religion.
Syria as a country has never been excepting of the gay life style, and in fact it is illegal for gay people to have sexual relations the penalty is up to three years in prison.
Of late however ISIS has brought to light there stunning dislike toward the LGBT community. Videos have been released by ISIS showing the brutal murders of several gay men; they were thrown off buildings and then stoned to death. The saddest thing about the videos is that you can see masses of bystanders with no facial expressions show no sign fear at the events taking place.
ISIS has now declared war on history. They have gone into the Mosul Museum and destroyed ancient artifacts from the Akkadian and Assyrian Empires. Some of these artifacts date back to 2,000 years ago. "..with sledgehammers as they attempt to destroy the “idols and gods” worshiped by people “instead of Allah.”" ISIS is exemplifying their power that they are enforcing over the countries in which they are now in control. They're destroying our human history because of their beliefs, and they're able to do so without anyone being able to stop them due to the terror in which they rule with.
Recently, there has been up to 350+ Christians and 12 Christian villages that have been kidnapped and taken hostage in Syria by ISIS. Most of these hostages are woman, children and the elderly. They have also managed to tear down and vandalize the Christian churches in these villages. Reports have said that some of the hostages have been transported to Ar-Raqqah, Syria the "capital of ISIS", many are worried that these people may be face persecution. There are also worries that the women and children may be sold as slaves to ISIS fighters.
The Islamic State has recently risen from obscurity to the forefront of global terrorism. Although most notorious for highly publicized beheadings and brutal campaigns against anyone they perceive as unfaithful to their perversion of Islam, they have recently perpetrated an entirely different crime. The group released footage on February 26 of militants smashing artifacts in at a Mosul Museum. The statues in question were thousands of years old, some dating back to the 7th century BC.
The war against ISIS has not seen any improvement for a long time, and as a result President Obama is preparing a proposal to send to congress to authorize the use of force against the militant group. I read a CNN article that talked about what is to be expected from this proposal, which is called AUMF. The article said that AUMF is expected to create a lot of political controversy, but it needs the approval of congress in order to proceed, despite the use of airstrikes in Syria that have already taken place.
There is a news article from CNN that explains in the title that "ISIS holds 150 Christians hostages, will threaten to kill them." This was reported by the founder of the Assyrian Human Rights Network, Osama Edward. Edward arises awareness that many innocent Christians are scared and need help. Most Americans believe this to be true, but the debate starts when it comes to if we are the ones that should try to help. It has become clear that ISIS feels as though it is appropriate to kill innocent people in attempt to achieve ultimate power in the Middle East.
Jihadi John is the nickname coined for the man behind many ISIS executions. He became notorious for his beheading videos that went viral. The world was shown the gruesome killings of innocent journalists and civilians. The world raced to figure out who the man behind the black mask and British accent was to try and deter him from more injustice. His name is Mohammed Emwazi. Officials believe he was educated in Great Britain and had always been an extremist before deciding to travel to Syria to join up in the ranks of ISIS. The article can be found
Recently three people were arrested in New York City as they were allegedly conspiring to be a part of Isis and support the terrorist group. The three New York resident,s Abdurasul Hasanovich Juraboev (24), Akhror Saidakhmetov (19), Abror Habibov (30) where one defendant offered to kill the president of the United States if ordered to do so. Saidakhmetov was arrested at John F. Kennedy International Airport when trying to board a plane to Istanbul.
With an increase of "Islamaphobia" many Muslims face discrimination in today's society, leaving them vulnerable to extreme groups such as ISIS. ISIS have been reportedly targeting young people, especially women, for recruitment. A CNN article states, "ISIS can appeal to young people's religious idealism and to a desire to escape the frustrations of life in the West." The article also refers to this as the young people wanting "the good life".
I am not one to get caught up in popular media. I only ever hear about new goings-on in the world from chatter around school or at home. I am out of the loop, and honestly I could care less about getting back in. I do like to know what's happening outside of my little bubble, but generally it doesn't impact my life enough for me to get concerned. That being said, there were a few events of 2014 that I genuinely cared about.
One story that had a significant impact on my life this year was the devolping information on the terrorist group Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). ISIS started as a part of the well known terrorist group Al Qdea but has now grown much larger and stronger than the original Al qadea. ISIS started their "campaign" while fighting American troops in Iraq and later. ISIS' main goal is to create a complete Islamic state, other wise known as Caliphate and will use brutal violence against anyone who stands in their way.
Should we go to war against The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (better known as ISIS)? This question is on the minds of many Americans today.
According to "Pew Research", 39% of Americans think the US government has a responsibility to intervene in this conflict while 55% believe otherwise. But the media seems to be much more in support of intervention.
My question is simply, "What is ISIS?" I chose this question to research because they have certainly shocked the whole world with their extreme brutality, slaughter of countless innocents and unarmed civilians, and, ultimately, the overall success of the group of pushing back Iraqi and Syrian lines and burrowing in a core between those two countries. According to ABCNews (https://sites.google.com/site/ccsloan/ap-assignments-1/youthvoices#) ISIS is a branch off of al-Queda and wishes to create an Iraqi and Syrian State (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria).
ISIS is probably the biggest terrorist group in the world since al Qaeda. The Islamic State of Iraq (and Syria) is a radical extremist group that threatens the welfare of those living in the Middle East. They are claiming religious supremacy by using fear tactics and extreme firepower.
Tomorrow, Turkish legislators will vote on the issues surrounding Isis in the neighboring countries of Syria and Iraq. Isis has proved to be a potential threat to Turkey which is currently involved in the anti-Isis coalition, and is debating sending troops into Syria. After the Turkish prime minister presented the idea it is inferred that the motion most likely will not pass. If it does however it will allow for foreign troops to pass through Turkey in an effort to stop Isis, and for a safety zone 20 miles inside of the Syrian border which could be a huge push in stopping war.
