Recently I was faced with a moral dilemma. The dilemma was whether or not I should steal some trinkets (of about $150 equivalent value) from a store. As I was examining the objects, without thinking, I accidentally put them in my sweatshirt pocket while I was talking to my mom and forgot they were there. As I was leaving the store, I remembered the treasures I had hidden in my pocket and was confronted with the decision to either continue walking out of the store with the objects or return them before leaving and put aside my desire for them. No one had seen me conceal the objects, so I was almost positive that I would not be caught if i chose to try to steal them. Ultimately however, I concluded that it was unethical for me to keep the objects so I decided to put them back.
Some may wonder what the significance of this event is.
