Hey! I’m Yanitza Valdivia and I attend Skyline High School in Oakland, California. I am 16 years old, I was born in February 24,1998 in Oakland. I love listening to music and watching movies. Whenever i get a chance, which is usually weekends or during break, I like to hang out with my friends and go shopping or go to the movies. I have lived in Oakland all my life but I visit my family in Guadalajara, Jalisco (Mexico) every 2 years. When i entered High school i realized that i need to stop procrastinating and i have been working on that. High school has also made me realize that in order to succeed i need to get out of my comfort zone and do things that will help me succeed in the future.

Skyline is very cultural. There is a variety of ethnicities and different people at the school including the staff. There are a lot of different activities at Skyline like school dances, performances from dance production and school plays, games, and a patriotic school festival called Titan Palooza and club rush. During Titan Palooza the class schedule is a minimum day schedule but we leave school on our regular time, it lasts from 1:27 to 3:00pm. During the festival students show pride by wearing their class shirt. Clubs sell food and drinks, there is playing, and if you want you are able to get married. In Club Rush clubs make banners and have booths where you are able to get information on the clubs and if you are interested you are able to join one.

Outside of school i like to meet up with my friends and talk to them either in person or on the phone. When I stay home I like to watch Netflix or catch up on shows that i recorded on my DVR. If i have make-up work to do for a class i would also do it during the week-end. To me my education and my family/friends are very important therefore i try to make time for both, even though sometimes it can be challenging.
